(Manila, Philippines) - The world's population reached 7 billion on Monday, October 31, 2011 as the Philippines has welcomed the world's seventh billion baby.
The baby girl was born in Jose Fabella Hospital in Manila and weighed 5lbs 5oz. She was given a symbolic cake by the United Nations and her birth was also witnessed by the sixth billionth baby who is now 12 years old.
The United Nations has declared October 31 as Seven Billion Day marking when the world's population reached the seven billion mark.
The Philippines is currently the world's 12th most populous country with over half of the population under the age of 25. According to the UN Population Fund, 10 percent of girls ages 15-19 are already bearing children. The organization has stated that the birth could highlight the country's population related issues.
