Duluth, GA — Former Secretary of State Karen Handel has taken a nine-point lead in the Republican primary runoff election for Governor, according to a poll conducted by Landmark Communications Inc.
Handel is leading former Congressman Nathan Deal 45.8% to 37.1%. As much as 17.1% of voters said they were as of yet "undecided" in the primary for governor.
The poll revealed that there is no gender gap in the primary election runoff. Deal receives 36.9% of the male vote and 37.2% of the female vote. Handel receives 47.5% of the male vote and 44.2% of the female vote.
Additionally, former Cobb County Commission Chairman Sam Olens has taken a substantial lead over his primary runoff opponent, State Sen. Preston Smith. Olens leads the race by a 33% to 10.3% margin, with 56.7% saying they are “undecided.”
Landmark Communications randomly selected voting households that participated in the July 20 Republican primary election with 800 voters participating in the survey and completing all questions. The survey was conducted by telephone on August 1, 2010.
The poll’s sample was geographically and demographically stratified, and respondents who said that they were not likely to vote were excluded from report tabulations. The margin of error of the survey is plus or minus 3.5%.
