ATLANTA, GA (May 14, 2010) - In an effort to educate the community and celebrate the work of our public service personnel, the Georgia Aquarium will recognize a week long show of appreciation May 17-23 for our everyday heroes.

The week will include special discounted offers and festivities culminating with Family Safety Day on May 22. In partnership with a number of law enforcement and public safety agencies, the Aquarium will host the 2^nd Annual Family Safety Day celebrations in the Aquarium’s Oceans Ballroom.

With a special focus on child safety, the event will aim to educate families about various safety issues. The event will feature educational information and demonstrations with police, fire rescue, various public safety personnel showcasing equipment and a wide range of displays and activities including:

• Informational booths including an accident simulation booth, infant and child car seat information booth, smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector booths and an interactive water safety program presented by Safe Kids Georgia

• Meet and greets with service personnel on-site including a firefighters, police K-9 unit and more

• Giveaways including free carbon monoxide and smoke alarms, flashlights, first-aid kits and water bottles

• Complimentary McGruff Safe Kids ID Kits provided by ADT

• Photos and autographs with mascots including: McGruff the Crime Dog, Smokey Bear, Rex (Ready Georgia), Thrash (Atlanta Thrashers), Chopper (Gwinnett Braves), and Aquarium mascots: Deepo, Domino and Scooter!

In appreciation of their everyday services, the Georgia Aquarium will offer a specially discounted admission rate for service personnel, law enforcement and their families May 17-23. All ID or badge carrying personnel (police, fire, EMS, HERO, etc.) can show their ID or badge at Aquarium Box Office to purchase a discounted Aquarium ticket for only $15. They may also purchase up to four discounted tickets for family and friends at special $20 rate.
